swap presenter view and slide show greyed out

I have my laptop hooked to an external monitor and I choose "duplicate" because I leave my laptop shut and just use the monitor. I use the Show Taskpane often. For some reason, it had switched to extend desktop and was showing the slide show where I couldn't see it. But on other computers (even when in a Duplicated Two screen setup), we can select those options. We wish to set our 26-slide presentation to loop in our real estate window display, however the 'Set Up Slide Show' icon on the ribbon is grayed out preventing us from adjusting the loop and presenter settings. The recommended answer to that ticket (enabling the 'Recording Tab') did not help me. Use the controls in Presenter view.
